Crocosmia corms are cold hardy though in colder areas they need winter protection. Foliage should be cut off at the end of late autumn and a deep layer of mulch or straw left to cover the ground. In severely frozen areas, the corms can be lifted and kept in a cool and dry place to avoid damage. Minimize wintertime watering to avoid rot. During spring, the corms should be planted again in new soil in order to have a healthy growth and colorful blooms during the summer season.
